Centenarian Gordon Short didn't let the small matter of a broken hip get in  the way of a charity fund-raising challenge.

The 100-year-old has set out to bowl 100 ends at 20 different bowls clubs raising money for the Devon Air Ambulance. He was injured in a recent fall - so he completed the Torquay leg of the challenge by bowling from  his wheelchair.

Gordon, who is keen to also promote the game of bowls, took on Torquay Bowling Club President Mike Reynolds.

It was also an opportunity to meet up with old friends from the Bay, including Len Bowden and John Evans.

Gordon was also presented with a small memento before enjoying a good old-fashioned bowlers tea.
