VE Day celebrations across Torbay have ave fallen victim to the pandemic.

The board of Brixham Future CIC have been forced to cancel the Brixham event, which was to take place between May 8 and 10.

Chairman John Brennan said: “It is with extreme regret that we have to make this announcement and thank all the participant groups and individuals for all the hard work that goes into delivering such free public events and activities.”

John Rudden, one of the organisers, said: “We hope a number of activities can be salvaged around Remembrance Day, which marks the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.”

Brixham Future CIC organised the £7,500 events with help from Brixham Lottery, donations, sponsorship and advertising and a Brixham Town Council £3,000 grant. Meanwhile, the Beacon Quay VE Day commemoration in Torquay on May 8 is also cancelled as well as the Palace Avenue VE Day events in Paignton.
