Brixham sisters Emelia and Isabel Andrew were so inspired by the Clap for Carers movement, they launched a fundraising campaign that has raised £500 for Torbay Hospital League of Friends.
Emelia, 11, and isabel, eight, both pupils at Brixham CofE School, posted notes through doors in Higher Ranscombe Road, asking the neighbours to donate unwanted items.
The response saw the girls inundated by donations of books, DVDs, toys, plants and electronics. Emelia and Isabel then hosted a table-top sale outside their home, as well as selling some of the goods online through Facebook.
“I realised people were probably going to have a clear-out during lockdown and, with charity shops closed, I thought it would be a really good way of raising money for our fantastic NHS,” said Emelia.
“It’s great when people can re-use other people’s unwanted stuff, better for the planet,” added Isabel.
