A Torquay-based estate agent is celebrating award success - after being crowned as both the ‘most active investment agents’ and the ‘most active licenced and leisure agents’ in the South West.
The industry journal, The Estates Gazette, compiles data of all commercial property market transactions annually.
In 2020, Bettesworths topped the two categories, seeing off competition from national and multi-national competitors such as JLL, Christie & Co, Knight Frank & Savills.
Also, for the sixth consecutive year, Paul Bettesworth has been named as the most active dealmaker in Devon – being the individual to have personally completed the most property transactions within the county.
Without doubt, 2020 was one of the strangest and most testing years in living memory. However, the property industry has proven resilient and it has been a busy year – as anyone buying or selling any property in the last 12 months will have experienced.
Matt Bettesworth said: "Here are Bettesworths, we have a fantastic team and we’re well armed to adapt and cope. You are never too established to learn and this year we have certainly learnt a few lessons. We are an agile adaptable business and this reflects in the service we provide.
"The award success we are celebrating is 100 per cent down to our team. Our track record speaks for itself. The strength of Bettesworths’ reputation is our greatest testament.

"From private individual property owners and occupiers to PLC institutions, service and results keeps clients coming back."
Of the leisure market, Matt said: ‘‘Covid may have played havoc with trade In the licenced and leisure sector but it also now spells a potential boom in domestic tourism and a pent-up demand for eating and drinking out, as restrictions are eased.
"We continue to see strong and increasing inquiries for pub, hotel, guesthouse and catering businesses across the region."
On the investment market, brother Paul Bettesworth said: "The property investment market is generally strong. Interest rates are low and other investment classes are seen as potentially more volatile.
"Property has always been viewed as a strong long-term asset and this is very much the case in these uncertain times.
"For the same reason, opportunities of investment properties coming to the market to buy are far exceeded by the demand for them. This creates a competitive market.
"I certainly echo Matt – the key to the success is our relatively small but superbly committed team, with a mix of technical knowledge, understanding and drive to achieve results for their clients in a personable but professional manner. And we are very grateful to them."
