Four candidates have come forward to contest the by-election for the Clifton with Maidenway seat on Torbay Council, following the death of Liberal Democrat Ian Doggett.
He was first elected for the ward in May 2007, and served as a councillor until his death in November 2020.
Candidates for the by-election on Thursday, May 6, were published by Torbay Council on Friday.
The Liberal Democrat contender is Paignton-born Cat Johns, daughter of the late Ruth Pentney who represented the ward from 2003 until 2015. Ms Johns works as an administrative assistant in a GP surgery.
The Conservative candidate is John Fellows, who runs a newsagent in Torbay Road and leads the local traders’ association.
Sue Kenning is standing for the Green Party, and Andy Symons is the Labour Party contender.
The election for a new police and crime commissioner will take place on the same day.
