Women who have been affected by domestic abuse continue to be supported by a Torbay project despite the current restrictions.

Karen Vaughan launched the project Rising Moments almost three years ago.

From small boxes of essentials delivered to the women, the group, which is run as a not-for-profit community project, now has two storage units full of food, hygiene packs and other essentials, some donated from wholesalers.

But Karen, herself a survivor, is appealing for financial support. “We need to raise around £1,500 and that will save the community for the next six months.”

Karen is continuing with telephone support. She and her small team of up to five volunteers, were in the process of planning a summer scheme which has been put on hold.

The group works alongside other community hubs, community groups and support agencies including Torbay Domestic Abuse Service. Apart from some funding from the TCDT, all the money has been raised through raffles, bingos and auctions at Upton Social Club which has now stopped.

Karen said: “We need some financial support to keep going.”
