Kacper smashes double gold in national championships

Torbay Weekly

Torbay Table Tennis Academy star Kacper Piwowar has won two gold medals in the Under-11 and Under-12 categories at the National Championships in Warwick. Kacper also competed in the Under-13 category, reaching the quarter-final.
On the Sunday, he returned to the hall for another gruelling day. In the quarter-finals, Kacper hit a low spell losing 0:2 and 7-9. A time out gave him a chance to regroup, going on to win the next set and then the fifth set 11:5. The semi-final was won 3:0 and the final was taken 3:1.
In 2019, Kacper won a gold medal in the Under-10 age category but in 2020, all competitions were cancelled.
From February 2020, when the Lockdown was announced, until last weekend, Kacper worked hard every day for his success. There were hours of combination training on and off the table.
His coaches are his parents, and his older brother Jakub is a top English player (No 1 in the Under-14s), so the family were able to train together in one household bubble.
Kacper’s hard work and his dedication was rewarded by the International Table Tennis Federation by inviting him to the “Hopes Around the Clock” programme, where he will be receive coaching and professional advice from world class coaches, which it is hoped, will lead to weeks of training in China.
The talented brothers have a very busy summer ahead, with Kacper going to the European Development Camp in Hungary and the European Championships in France and Jakub going to the European Championships in Croatia and the European Squad Camp in Sweden.
Torquay Academy head teacher Mr Margetts, who understands sport at the Elite level, and has helped the boys with the training venue. This success, without financial help, would not be possible, so credit therefore also must go to Managing Directors Tim & Jo Shears from Black and White Asset Finance Company.
Last, but not least, equipment supplier Bribar Table Tennis, who helped the boys to get a contract with the equipment manufacturer Tibhar.
