Janet snaps up top photographic award

Local photographer Janet Haines has landed a top award.

Janet, who lies in the Warberries area of Torquay, was awarded the Bronze Award in the Amateur section of the International Fotofestival Pelt with her image ‘Beguiling’.

Pelt is a town in Belgium that holds a street photo festival every other year.  In 2019 Janet was living in the Netherlands and went along to this stunning street festival and was so impressed that she decided in 2021 she would enter her work.

All three of her 2021 entries were accepted into the exhibition and will be displayed somewhere amongst the 830 images in the streets until September.

Janet is a member of the Royal Photographic Society, an educational charity, from which she holds an Associate Distinction for her work.  She is also a member of Exeter Camera Club.

She says: "Imagine my surprise when watching the Festivals opening ceremony on YouTube to suddenly see my work and name up there being awarded the Bronze medal.  What is even more surprising to me is that the Europeans tend to like contemporary photography, where the image has a message or meaning, whereas my work is purely visual art.”
