Indoor bowls raring to roll - if the players want it

Torbay Weekly

Raring to go - but only when the time and numbers are right.

That's the message from Graham Warren, president/league secretary of the Torbay Area Indoor Bowling Association  based in the grounds of Oldway Mansion.

He says: "There has been some interest shown into the possibility of some summer opening. We will only open if we get a minimum number of players to cover the extra cost of utilities and openings will be in line with whatever Covid 19 rules are at the time."

Graham says that if enough players confirm, there will be a summer membership fee to cover the extra costs. It is estimated that this will be between £25 and £30 depending on numbers. The more people who join the cheaper the fee.

It is proposed to have three sessions per day - 10am to 11.45am; 12noon to 1.45pm and 2pm to 3.45pm.

There will be three rinks available with a maximum of six persons per rink and rink fees will be £2 per game. Other times may be available depending upon demand.

The plan at the moment is to open the week commencing May 17 with the club open from Tuesday to Friday each week

Graham says: "If there is a demand the club could be open every other weekend on Saturday and Sunday mornings."

Catering facilities will be available abiding by Covid rules.

Graham says: "The club is now fully Covid secure. The new ventilation system is in and operating with standards well above the EIBA/Government regulations."
