Hundreds of pounds of homeware donated to help refugees

Torbay Weekly

The Torquay branch of Dunelm, the UK’s leading homeware retailer, has helped a local host family prepare their home for Ukrainian refugees by donating hundreds of pounds worth of products.

Kassie Foran, a resident from Torquay, reached out to her local Dunelm when she found out that she would be hosting a Ukrainian mother and her six-year-old daughter, who have been displaced due to the ongoing conflict in their home country.

Colleagues from the Bridge Retail Park store were eager to help and pulled together a shopping basket of essential Dunelm products to gift to the family.

Matt Steele, Deputy Store Coach for the Torquay store, said: “When we received the message from Kassie, we wanted to do all we could to help. We donated a mattress, a mattress protector, some comfy throws, some towels and various bits for the kitchen.

“It’s our absolute pleasure to do everything possible to make the families coming to the UK from Ukraine feel as welcome as possible.”

Kassie Foran, who is hosting the family, said: “I’m so grateful to the team at Dunelm Torquay for all of their help and support in making sure that the family coming to live with me will have a comfortable place that they can call home.”

Janice Dunn, Head of Community at Dunelm, said: “Community is at the heart of everything that we do at Dunelm - as the Home of Homes, we have been doing everything we can to ensure that people seeking refuge in the UK feel safe and comfortable. We have facilitated donation drop-offs within our stores, donated hundreds of pallets of product to humanitarian organisations and are offering discounts to those who are opening up their own homes to host those in need.”

Households who are hosting refugees from Ukraine can claim a 10% discount on their shop by showing their Letter of Travel (a letter sent by the government via email ahead of the refugees arriving) at the checkout. The offer is valid until 24th May 2022.
