Gulls' women and under-18s celebrate success

Torbay Weekly

Strengthened by several players who were unavailable for their Devon Premier Cup semi-final winning team the previous week, Torquay United ladies beat Marine Academy Plymouth 2-1 to maintain pressure on SW Women's Regional League leaders Sherborne Town.

Tracey Cross (pen) and Esme Kilburn-Thompson scored as Torquay overhauled MAP at Stoke Gabriel, where they will also meet Forest Green Rovers this Sunday (2pm).

Meanwhile, United's under-18 side continued its own drive for the SW Counties Youth League title with a 10-0 home rout of Swindon Supermarine, who started the day in fourth place.

Leading 3-0 at the interval, Chris Todd's young Gulls ran riot in the second half with sub Ben Field grabbing a hat-trick.

United, four points behind leaders Bridgwater with two games in hand, are away to third-placed Mangotsfield United on Saturday.
