Love Parks Week is a national campaign led by Keep Britain Tidy to celebrate what?s great about our parks and green spaces.

Green Spaces: It's time for us to Love our Parks

Torbay Weekly

With the school holidays starting there are likely to be a few families looking for something that gets them out of the house, lets young children expend some energy and that doesn’t cost anything.

Whilst some may be heading to the beach, for many it’s Torbay’s parks and green spaces that will be providing a breath of fresh air for children and parents alike this summer.

This would seem to be confirmed by a recent survey from Keep Britain Tidy and YouGov, which found that 68 per cent of parents said they take their child to the park to burn off energy, with 61 per cent of parents surveyed also saying that one of the reasons they choose the park is because it’s free.

To celebrate our parks and green spaces and what they mean to us, SWISCo is taking part in Keep Britain Tidy’s Love Parks Week from July 19 to August 5. There will be activities for all ages taking place, including two for families and children.

On July 29, the team will be in Lindisfarne Park with Torbay Community Development Trust’s Community Builder for the Willows, to discover more about bugs and butterflies with a fun trail and simple craft activities.

On August 3 we will be joined by the Saving Devon’s Treescapes project to discover more about the mini beasts in and around Stoodley Knowle Meadow and create some tree-bug art.

Both events are free and run from 1.30 to 3.30pm. They are suitable for ages three to 11 years and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Love Parks is also a about celebrating all the efforts of volunteers and staff who help maintain and protect our green spaces.

That it follows hot on the heels of the judges visits for South West in Bloom, means that Love Parks is the perfect time to celebrate Torbay’s parks and green spaces.
