Fish of the Month is an absolute beast of a Pollack

Torbay Weekly

This week has seen some fantastic fish and none better than the January fish of the month, a superb 17lb Pollack falling to the rod of Saleem Ali, fishing aboard a private boat and using a Sidewinder Skerries eel on a flying collar rig.

A pack from our kind sponsor Sidewinder lures will be with him shortly. Our other sponsor is Newbarn Angling Centre, please get your catch reports and pictures in to my email johnsherlockfish@gmail.com.

On the shore, Marcus ward fished a day session in the South Hams and found the Whiting in a feeding frenzy. Tony Wite from Totnes took his daughter Maizie to Brixham where they fished the breakwater with small shore jigs and found the Mackerel in an obliging mood.

Aaron Colhoun travelled to the Somerset shores and landed a fine Spotted Ray of 3lbs. The South West shore league held its first event this weekend, and the anglers seemed to be fishing mainly rock marks. Tom Stebbens, Will Booth, Daniel Patrick and Shay Upham all landed Ballan Wrasse, while John White, Matthew Perry and Jack Rickets all recorded some nice Bullhuss.

Honiton SAC Members had a busy week, with some travelling to Minehead to fish aboard Michael Webber-Griffiths boat Teddie Boy. Tom Travers and James Trevett both recorded good Blonde Rays up to 16lbs, with Tom landing the biggest and James had the best Spurdog, also tipping the scales at 16lbs.

They also fished their monthly trip on Sambe and Orca out of Beer where species landed included Ballan and Cuckoo wrasse, Whiting, Smoothhound, Conger, Huss, Pollack, Ray and even some Scad to the rod of junior angler Jack Travers.

On a separate trip out from Ilfracombe, Pete Gregory fished for one of his favourite winter species Spurdogs, and had a great return of many of the species, along with some Conger Eels.

Kayak angler fished from a Kayak somewhere in the South hams and landed a superb turbot of 21 ½ lbs. Spring ponds at Rocombe reported some good Carp this week, along with Roach to 2lbs and a Perch of 3lbs 10oz.
