Congratulations to the first winner of the fish of the month competition, Gordon Richards, with his Spurdog of 22lbs caught from a private boat. His prize pack from Sidewinder lures is on the way.
There were plenty of good fish landed, including this week’s best, a new lake record of 32lbs at Newbarn Angling Centre to regular angler Bob Wooster from Paignton.
This month’s competition starts from now, so please get your pictures and catch reports in by email to email@example.com
First reports are coming in of Mackerel being caught from our shore marks, which means the summer predators will not be far behind. The beaches are still producing Plaice with Alex Webb landing a fine fish of 2lbs 1oz. Tim Parsons of Exmouth’s Hook, Line and Tackle also managed to get amongst them.
Kyle Blackmore of Honiton SAC tried his hand for an early Smoothhound from a local beach, managing to find a few, although not yet large. Visiting a rock mark, Tom Stebbens from Dartmouth found a few Wrasse in a feeding mood again not yet large. A visit to a North Devon beach produced a Gilthead Bream of 3lbs 8oz to the rod of Charles Cornforth using lugworm on a simple running ledger rig.
Boat anglers are getting amongst some fine fish also this week with the South coast producing plenty of Plaice. Many anglers travelled north searching for the Rays that are plentiful in the Bristol channel at the moment.
I had a trip and landed in excess of 10 Thornbacks and Blondes. John Standford of Honiton SAC fished out of Minehead, where he also found plenty, along with some Smoothounds. Matt Forrester, skipper of Torquay’s Silver Halo charter boat, is still finding plenty of medium-sized Pollack and reports a few Coalfish also landed.
James Barron visiting Newbarn Angling centre opted to fish for Roach on light float gear and had a battle on his hand when a 12lb 2oz Common Carp took his single maggot bait. Ben Evans also used light gear on the specimen lake and landed a fine Common Carp of 22lbs. There are plenty of good fish being landed here at the moment, remember to book to fish the specimen pool on 07723 035519.
Stay safe and tight lines.
