Events resume with Seal Talk at cove

Torbay Weekly

2021 is now in full steam ahead, and time is quite literally flying past us.

Thank goodness the weather has improved during June, bring on more sunshine and those balmy evenings throughout the summer.

Down at Fishcombe Cove Café, we have been brainstorming ideas for more evening events we can hold; it makes it much more exciting and realistic when the weather is on our side.

Tonight marks our first event of the season with the Seal Talk at the cove.

Due to Covid regulations, we had to cap the amount of tickets available - as a result of that, and having a fairly small little cove, it sold out faster than we expected.

But the great thing about events that sell out is we have the opportunity to look into hosting another over the summer, so if you missed out on tickets this time round fear not, we will keep you all updated as and when.

While we’re talking about events, we have limited tickets still available for our upcoming interactive storytelling show.

On the afternoon of Saturday, July 3, at 4.30pm we have a local storytelling and writer Josephine of Josephine Stories coming down to the cove for an hour-long show filled with adventure, overcoming fears and diving in at the deep end.

In this interactive children’s show we meet Barney the horse, but Barney is no ordinary horse - he’s got feet the size of the biggest clouds you’ve ever seen in the sky!

Sometimes his feet get in the way of his adventures but one sunny afternoon Barney visits the beach and decides to give swimming a try.

Will he succeed - or will he let his feet get in the way of his exciting, new-found dreams?

This event is perfect for young children aged over five. Enjoy cakes and squash with every ticket purchased, adults £5/children £3.

I have all my fingers crossed that restrictions ease further in four weeks - if it’s safe enough to do so - so we can arrange and book in more evenings for our ideas and events.

We have the likes of a collaboration with Surfer’s Against Sewage community leaders for Coastal Clean-up, gourmet pizza nights and back by popular demand will be a Bingo On The Beach night!

Let me tell you, we are so excited to get stuck in with planning and organising of these events, we just have to make sure it’s safe for us and the community to do so first.

But we will of course, keep you all updated so stay in the loop by following the café ‘s social media pages @fishcombecovecafe

In the meantime, another type of event which has caught my eye is local outdoor education and adventure specialists Reach Outdoors are hosting a free outdoor instructor open day on July 3.

Normally, these open days come at a cost to participate. However, the team at Reach Outdoors have decided to open it up for everyone to join if they wish.

Although it is free you will have to enrol for the day - Covid regulations - but it’s totally worth it for a day of looking into the amazing activities that could potentially become part of your every day.

If you have always seen yourself enjoying the big outdoors along with the activities such as coasteering, rock climbing, kayaking, paddle boarding and so much more - then this is your chance to look into it a further!

Save the date in your diary, enrol yourself on to their open outdoor instructor day - email or log on to - and see what opportunities present to you.
