Danny Wright's predicted return to fitness takes pressure off new Torquay United signings

Torbay Weekly

The prospect of centre-forward Danny Wright returning to fitness sooner than at first expected has taken the pressure off Torquay United manager Gary Johnson trying to sign a replacement.

"Obviously, we're still looking to strengthen the squad anyway but Danny's injury is short-term rather than long-term - and that has definitely played a part in our thinking over the past week or so," said Johnson.

The Gulls' boss played with no specialist strikers in Saturday's 1-0 upset win over Wrexham at Plainmoor but he stressed: "We did have Joe Lewis, Dean Moxey (both Covid) and Tom Lapslie (injury) back, and Ben Wynter in his best position (right-back), so it almost felt like having four new players."

United are up to 11th in the National League, nine points off the play-offs with 18 games to go, and they hope to complete a second double of the season at bottom-of-the-table Dover Athletic this Saturday.
