Cricket: Former Paignton captain signs for Torquay
The surprise move of former Paignton captain George Benton to local rivals Torquay is unlikely to be topped for impact during local cricket's close-season.
Benton, 28, who led his hometown club to two Premier Division runner-up spots over the last two years, has dropped down a division to try and help Torquay back to the top flight.
The former Devon all-rounder comes from a family steeped in Queen's Park traditions, and it is clearly a big decision to leave.
"Paignton is a fantastic club, and it's been my whole cricketing life," he told the Devon League website.
"But I have had a long think about my cricket and I think a fresh start is needed and a new challenge.
"I know a lot of the players at Torquay. Hopefully I can play a part in getting to where they want to be."
