COLUMN: Torbay Hospital Radio, coming to an event near you

Joseph Bulmer

Although Torbay Hospital Radio is based in what some might say a quaint little space hidden in the hospital from which we broadcast, the team also like get out and about in the community too.

This year, the charity is running the music and PA for a number of local events across South Devon. People attending the local fairs and events can also come to say hello, learn about the charity, play our ‘Spin the Wheel’ and ‘Coin Drop’ games to win sweets and donate to our charity.

It’s a great way for us to spread word about what we do in the local community, as there are still many people who are not familiar with our services in the hospital. It’s also a brilliant chance for members of the charity to get together as a team, as often people present alone or in small groups, so rarely get the chance to meet other members.

I have fond memories of eating bacon baps, various members such as Geoff, David and Kerrie hosting dog shows (how they can help choose the winners, I don’t know – they are all so cute in my eyes), seeing the excitement of children and even adults when they win our games, and inspiring more people to volunteer for our charity.

I am looking forward to joining the team this year, as we already have a great collection of events lined up for this year.

Some of the events include the Kingsteighton Ram Roast on May 2, the Kingskerswell Jubilee Event on June 5, Ipplepen’s Ipple Tipple on July 16 and the Marldon Apple Pie Fair on September 3

Plus, we have some more to confirm soon. Fingers crossed the weather will be nice and sunny.

If you’re hosting a local event and require music and PA, head to our website to find out more:
