A wide range of organisations in Torquay have benefited thanks to a grant from the local Freemasons.

Torquay’s Lodge was successful in applying to Devonshire’s Freemason’s WAKE fund for a grant of £750 to help St Andrew’s Methodist Church in Shiphay finance essential upgrades.

The Church has many “Outreach” activities into the community and had been struggling with unfit disabled access and toilets.

Groups include: Youth Genesis, baby and toddler, exercise for over 50s and poor mobility groups, ladies and sewing groups, brass band rehearsals and slimming classes.

The Master of the Lodge of St Mary’s Andy Shout said: "Having grown up in Shiphay it was a real privilege to present a cheque that supports not only the local church but all the local organisations that the church supports. The efforts and improvement will benefit a wide range of organisations within the community for many years to come."
