Charlotte Smith is taking on the challenge of a full marathon in memory of her Dad.

The 26-mile route will take her from his resting place at St Mary's Church in Kingskerswell through Torquay, Babbacombe, Paignton and Churston, and then all the way back again
Next Tuesday, September 7, will mark 10 years since the death of Dad David who struggled with depression. Charlotte has taken on this huge challenge to raise money for the mental health charity, MIND.
David and his wife Trisha previously owned the Bickleigh Mill pub/restaurant near Kingskerswell, and David was a hugely popular member of the local community after moving to South Devon from Worcester.

“It was during Covid that I put on a bit of weight, became quite insecure and felt low in my mental health,” said Charlotte, who is sponsored for the event by Wollens solicitors, The Game of Two Halves and E- Hairdressing. “I decided I wanted to do something crazy and it was last November that I chose to do a marathon in Dad’s memory.
“It was great motivation for me to get out running and it has been a crazy journey that has not only helped improve my mental health, but also support other people.
“I’ve had so many messages through my social media and mental health is a huge thing for my family. We want more funding for mental health charities because that wasn’t the case 10 years ago.
“I never want a family to go through what we had to experience.
“I’ve set myself a target of £10,000 and we’ve already reached £7,000, with lots more donations to come in.
“I’ve had Coombe Pafford School raise £300 for me, donations from all over the place and I created a social media chain that encouraged people to run 4km, tag four friends and donate £5, which reached a lot of people.
“I organised a Distance for David event at my University in Bath and I am so overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity people have shown.”
