Boston Tea Party to open in Torquay

Boston Tea Party is set to open the doors to its newest café in Torquay in what was previously Pizza Express on The Strand.

The South West-based independent cafe chain - named ‘Britain’s Most Ethical Coffee Shop’ by Ethical Consumer in 2019 - will start work on the historic building in the autumn.

When the café opens towards the end of the year it will create around 30 new jobs for the town.

Boston Tea Party’s 25th café will seat more than 160 people inside and out.

BTP is currently recruiting to fill management, front of house, chef and barista positions.

Boston Tea Party’s family-friendly cafés serve up a range of ethically sourced food and drink, including its award-winning all-day breakfasts, lunches and homemade cakes alongside specialty coffees, loose-leaf teas and homemade smoothies and juices.

CEO and co-owner Sam Roberts said: “Every BTP is unique and designed to be sympathetic to the building and surroundings.

"That’s why we were eager to snap up the former upholsterers and cabinet makers - we love a building with soul.

"We’re aiming to create a community hub for Torquay, a place to share great food and drink.

“We put the company purpose of 'making things better' at the centre of everything we do.

"Whether you bring the family for brunch or pop in to grab a takeaway coffee (bring your reusable cup!) you’ll leave knowing you’ve done a little bit of good too.”

In 2018, BTP banned single use coffee cups from its cafés – the first café chain to do so in the UK. So far, it’s saved more than 270,000 cups from landfill.
