Bells rung out for Jubilee in Brixham

Torbay Weekly

A band of local bell ringers from St. Mary’s Church in Brixham were honoured to be able to ring the ‘Queen’s peal of call-changes’ (on all ten bells!) for HM Queen Elizabeth to mark the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty’s reign on Friday, June 3.

Tower Captain Guy Thompson said: “We discussed the celebration as a team and the enthusiasm to ‘do something’ was terrific.

“Ringers were so pleased to have the opportunity that volunteers flocked to the tower, which enabled all ten bells to be rung, a rare event in itself and simply fantastic. Thank you to everyone who volunteered and gave their time to celebrate this ‘once in a lifetime’ event.”

Anyone interested in learning to ring, or former bell ringers who wish to return, should contact Guy on 07764 – 344694. He will be pleased to receive your call and encourage new members to this wonderfully traditional pastime.
