The Axminster men`s over 60`s triples team travelled 10 minutes up the road to Chardstock for what turned out to be an eventful friendly encounter.
The green was very heavy from the recent rain and the grass was a tad long. On both rinks, the visitors got off to a flying start, quickly amassing seven shots without reply, but sure enough, the home team skips realized that long jacks would be our Achilles heel and were quickly back on terms.
Then, the sky opened, sending all 12 of us to the clubhouse for an early tea. When play resumed, Jack "the hat" Hare, club captain David Harris and skip Bob Sherborne got out of jail with a five on the last end to record a draw.
On the other rink, "lovely legs" Elliott, John Hill, and skip Jovial Ken Taylor disastrously dropped 8 shots on one end, eventually losing by 7 shots 22/15. C`est la Vie.
The bowls season is heading into the last 6 weeks, but at Axminster, we are able to continue on through the winter on our all-weather carpet, perhaps an opportunity to take up something new for the winter enjoying some friendly company and the light-hearted banter of informal roll-ups - please call Glen Elliott on 07933 517591 if you are interested in an hour’s taster session.
