Awards evening for Torbay Motor Club

Torbay Weekly

Torbay Motor Club recently held its AGM and Award’s Evening at the Exeter Court Hotel, Kennford which was very well attended by both existing and new members. The Club was founded in 1950, and for many years held the very popular Oddicombe Hillclimb, in Torquay.

Adrian White, in his Chairman's statement, advised that the Club had come through the difficult last 12 months in very good shape, a fantastic achievement given the problems caused by Covid.

Roy Sims reported that membership is now increasing, and is currently 224 strong, with quite a few new members joining, particularly to take part in the autocross events.

In summarising the performance of Torbay MC members in competition, Roy mentioned Shaun Tuckey's success in winning the 2020 ASWMC Hillclimb Championship, and also coming 4th in the ASWMC Sprint Championship. The Club won the ASWMC Speed Event of the Year, and the Autocross of The Year awards. This has all contributed to Torbay MC winning the Club of the Year Award for the third consecutive year.

Finance Director, Rupert Barker, confirmed that the Club is in good health financially, and despite a number of events being held without spectators, this has not had a detrimental effect on the Club’s finances. The move to online entries for events has been very successful, and every event was full within two hours of going "live".

After the business of the AGM had been completed, the Awards were presented to members recognising their successes in various motorsport events over the last 12 months.

Club Vice President, Les Connett, presented the awards. Amongst those receiving awards were Steve Hill, who won The Harry Tupman Trophy and David Arnold - the Phil Read Ltd Perpetual Challenge Trophy. Les Connett received the Scribes Award for his “Back Fire” column, which he has been writing for many years in Missfire, the monthly Club magazine.

A fantastic year for Torbay Motor Club....and hopefully an equally successful 2021 will be confirmed in due course.
