Award-winning B&B couple named as Visit Devon Tourism Leaders

Torbay Weekly

Multi-award winning B&B owners Andy and Julian Banner-Price – who run The 25 Boutique B&B in Torquay – have been named as Tourism Business Leaders at a recent award ceremony.

The annual Visit Devon awards were held on line earlier this year due to Covid, with an in person ceremony held last week to hand out the awards.

Two surprise awards were announced on the night, Winner of Winners, and Tourism Business Leader award.

Robin Barker, awards organiser, said “The judging panel wanted to recognise a business acting as leaders in tourism.

“The 25 is not only excelling, but one which has acted as exemplars in guiding others to excellence. It’s led by two outstanding individuals who are already multiple winners.”

Co-owner of The 25 Andy said “We couldn’t believe it, we certainly weren’t expecting to walk away with two awards, having already won gold for best B&B in Devon.

“We care passionately about the hospitality business not only here on the English Riviera but also across Devon as a whole. We hope we’ve proven what’s possible and that even the smallest business can be world class.”

His husband Julian added “It’s lovely to be recognised for not only the success of our own business but how we’ve helped put the area on the map.

“We are very supportive of other businesses across the Bay on our website and social media. By us all working together we can bring in even more visitors and success for everyone as the number one resort in the country.”

Andy said: “I’ve helped and supported many businesses over the last few years and am now turning this into more formal online training and consultancy.

“We have over 15 years experience of running five-star, award-winning accommodation but still feel it’s a continual process of improvement. We will never have a finished product.”

The other special award was the Winner of Winners, presented to The Bear Town in Cullompton, who had already won two gold awards for New Tourism Business and Small Visitor Attraction, as well as a bronze for Accessible and Inclusive Tourism.

The party at fellow award-winning business, Quince Honey Farm in South Molton, was also able to celebrate the three Devon businesses who have been announced as finalists in the national Visit England awards of which The 25 is one, along with Brightham House B&B and Pitt Farm Holiday Cottages.

They will have to wait until the national awards ceremony on June 8 at the Library of Birmingham to find out if they win gold, silver or bronze.

Deborah Heather, from headline sponsors Quality in Tourism, said: “I was delighted to have been able to attend the Devon Tourism evening, culminating in the presenting of the two extra awards, hugely well-deserved by both, congratulations.”
