Athletics: Busy and successful weeks on racing calendar

Torbay Athletic Club has had a busy and successful few weeks on the racing calendar.

This weekend Betsy Bebbington represented England at the England Athletics Masters Championships at the Yorkshire Marathon - she finished in a time of 3:29:29 placing third Fv55.

At the PureTrail 10k at Castle Drogo, Hayley Ratcliffe was second lady in 56:29 and Marc Hagland second male in a time of 44:01.

There were more marathon adventures at the Paris Marathon with Karen Frissen (4:26:16) and Paul Frissen (4:26:16) running together in the city where they first got engaged.

Andy Philippou finished in 5:09:03 enjoying the iconic sights of the world’s biggest marathon.

Torbay AAC runner Tas Felstead joined almost 13.000 in the iconic Oxford half marathon, a fast and flat course around the historic town taking in the sights of the world famous colleges and parks. Despite a knee injury, Tas finished in 2:09.00.

The Plym Valley Trail Half Marathon a firm favourite from First and Last Running, was revisited for the tenth time by Mark Luscombe (2:20:00)and Gemma Radcliffe (2:27:00).

The route is very pretty following cycle path 27 over viaducts and down through the old railway line from Clearbrook Village to Coypool and back up to the finish.

Alma Ruiz bounced her way to a happy finish of The Inflatable 10k at Westpoint.

On October 3, Nick Robinson ran the Starcross shuffle. He secured first place for running three 6.6-mile loops from Starcross to Double Locks and back with a time of 2.53.47 and Ian Sell was fourth 2.59.40.

The Virgin London Marathon returned with glorious weather and the awesome atmosphere that the event is renowned for - Kevin McGovern 3:46:56, Mark Bruce 3:57:35, Sara Crozier 4:08:08, Debbie Drake 4:16:03, Michelle McCallum 5:40:29.
