Athletes racing in run-up to Christmas

Joseph Bulmer

Torbay AAC athletes were still out and about racing in the run-up to Christmas.

Last weekend was the Extremely Jolly Christmas Run - this is Jolly Runnings Christmas Cracker!

The long 10k takes place along pathways, woodland trails and fields at Escot and in one of the fields nestles a 30-metre waterslide for festive fun to get in the Christmas spirit.

First home for the club was Martyn Breslan in third place with a time of 55:48, 28 Chris Marshall (1:16:28), 43 Andy Philippou (1:19:33), 165 Charlotte Philippou (1:48:10).

The Devon County Cross Country results showed strong performances from Team Torbay with prizes claimed across the age categories. The racing was fierce and muddy.

Third placed in the under-20 women's race was Holly Lehman-Liberal (20:39). Third in the senior women team was Sarah Harrison (23:03), Hayley Ratcliffe (23:22) and Nadine Lee (26:17).

The ladies' team also claimed third place in the masters team.

The under-17 men third place were Ben Osmond (17:54), James Larkin (19:16) and Sam Barnaby (19:40).

On behalf of Torbay AAC , we send condolences on the passing of Ken Robertson from Mid Devon CC. A true gentleman inspiring generations of cyclists and making an invaluable contribution to South West sport. Chapeau!
