Bitton Park is the place to be for rugby fans tomorrow night (Fri) when local rivals Teignmouth and Newton Abbot meet (7.30pm) in a South West League Western Counties West derby with much to play for.
This is a weekend off for most teams, but hosts Teignmouth (6th) and Newton (5th) lock horns in an important rearranged fixture.
Both sides should be confident, Teignmouth after their 39-17 home win over third-placed Truro last Saturday, but especially the All Whites, who are on a great run.
Early replacement Will Sowden, Pete Bilham, Jack Bowen (2) and Alex Ford all scored tries for Teignmouth, with Jack Mayne kicking extra points, the game effectively over at 34-7 soon after half-time.
Newton beat Burnham-on-Sea (2nd) 43-22 at Rackerhayes, their eighth win in ten games, including a draw. The only team to beat them in that spell has been runaway leaders Wadebridge Camels.
With Max Snow man-of-the-match they were too good for Burnham, closing the gap to fourth-placed Chard to four points, with Teignmouth only another three points away.
On Saturday week (March 5) Newton also travel to Chard.
In the same division Paignton cheered themselves up with a 21-15 home win over Bideford - tries by Jack Linley-Shaw and Steve Worth and the boot of Olly Latto did the trick ahead of a trip to Penryn this Saturday.
After their strong mid-season run Brixham slipped to a fourth successive defeat in the SW Premier Division - it was always going to be tough at third-placed Weston Hornets, who won 33-7.
Brixham Crusaders did win their 2nd XV derby 47-0 against Paignton.
Teenager Lewis Crocker made a promising senior debut at fly-half, but Torquay Athletic went down 57-10 away to Tavistock in Cornwall/ Devon Division.
But New Cross (Kingsteignton) are now six points clear in Devon One after a 24-15 win at Exeter Athletic.
South Molton and Exeter Saracens are both within seven points of New Cross with a game in hand, so the Saracens-v-New Cross game on March 5 could be a title decider.
Other games on Saturday: Devon One - Dartmouth v Buckfastleigh Ramblers, Salcombe v Totnes.
