Animal Centre wants to provide touch of magic for over 55s

Torbay Weekly

A Torquay business is encouraging people to join them in Connecting Actively to Nature.

'CAN' is described by the Kind of Magic Animal Centre as an an 'exciting programme that supports and inspires people aged over 55 to connect actively to nature.

This includes people with multiple barriers to activity such as: health conditions, poor fitness, isolation, too busy to get outdoors, or considering activity is 'not for them'.

Feeling Happier and Healthier is another programme at the centre which encourages people to get outdoors, amongst its beautiful surroundings and discover the combined health and wellbeing benefits of a more active lifestyle.

The business says: "Being outside in the fresh air can give you an enormous boost, improve your mood and reduce anxiety."

The centre, based just outside Torquay and easily accessible by road, is offering free sessions over the late May bank holiday weekend .

The business says: "These sessions give the over 55s the chance to come and see what we are about. Meet our sheep, donkeys and poultry. See how our veg garden is developing - and why not take part in some art/ craft style activities."

It adds: "Bring a flask and be as active or as mindful as you wish. We have a beautiful countryside outlook to enjoy while you sit in our garden area. You can wander around the site and meet the animals. There’s the opportunity to create something arty to take away with you."Q

There is no set entrance fee but a donation bucket will be on site.

The sessions will run 11am to 12.30pm and 2pm to 3.30pm Saturday May 29 and Sunday May 30.

The centre will also be taking part in ‘Have a grow day’ on June 5 when it will be open to families to spend some time with them and be creative.
