Unseasonal windy and cold weather seems to have slowed the fishing down somewhat this week, however for those that manage to grab either a short session when the weather was favourable or brave it out the rewards are there.
Mackerel are showing around the usual rock marks and the Smooth hounds have definitely now moved in, a sure sign of better things to come.
One of those grabbing a session when the weather allowed was Gordon Richards, who fished from a private boat with friend Paul Millman targeting the smoothhounds where they caught 15 fish to 14lbs and a few bonus bull huss to 14lbs.
Bryz Auger took a couple of trips to the Salcombe estuary finding the glithead bream feeding along with a nice tub gurnard. The successful method being simple running ledger rigs with the bait being ragworm or Bluey strip.
Lyme Regis SAC fished an evening competition in windy conditions and apart from seaweed only one fish was landed, a dogfish to Darren Herbert owner of the Tackle Box.
Exmouth SAC member Tim Clotworthy took a trip to Cornwall and was rewarded with a bull huss of 10lbs 11oz and a bonus three-bearded rockling.
Hook, Line and Tackle of Exmouth are running a bendy rod competition on June 5, it costs £40 to enter which includes the rod, proceeds are going to the RNLI and the first prize is £75.
Carp fish continues to see some good fish banked with Rich Essex and Andrew Houlihan fishing a 24-hour session at Newbarn Angling Centre and landing 12 carp each with several 20lbs plus fish and the best weighing in at 25lbs. These were all caught on fresh custom made boilies.
James Barron, fishing the same venue, landed a new personal best carp fishing mid water with a zig rig.
Upham farm near Exeter has produced a couple of good fish this week with Kevin Intrasena landing a mirror carp of 28lbs and Keith Neil one of 25lbs.
South West Lakes Trust's latest catch figures for Kennick were 115 trout landed to 30 anglers, an average of 3,83 with the best flies including Blue Flash damsels and Diawl Bachs, the fish are showing all over the reservoir and at all depths.
