Agonising end to FA Vase run as Buckland go out on penalties

Torbay Weekly

There's no more agonising way to lose any cup-tie than on penalties but Buckland Athletic's exciting FA Vase run came to an end just that way in the Fifth Round at Newport Pagnell Town.

Owen Stockton's spectacular 45-yard shot midway through the second half, with the home goalkeeper off his line, seemed to have pulled off an upset against one of the tournament favourites and carried Western League Bucks into the quarter-finals.

But Newport of the United Counties League equalised (1-1) in the 93rd minute in front of more a thousand fans in Buckinghamshire.

After the first five penalties, the 'score' was 4-4, but Cieran Bridger and Ryan Bush both had their next two spot-kicks saved and the Ambers - both sides were trying to reach the last-eight five years after they last did it - were out.
